Saint Sword is a Sega Genesis Mega Drive video game released in 1991. It was developed by Korenchu, who also developed some other popular action titles for the Sega Genesis, such as Light Crusader and Dragon’s Fury. The game casts the player as a novice swordsman on a mission to re-assemble pieces of a holy sword that had been scattered across Earth's history. The player must go through four main levels: Prehistory, Ancient Egypt, Medieval Europe, and Ancient Japan. Each level features creatures inspired by its respective era, such as ghosts in the Prehistory level and ninja in the Ancient Japan level.

At the beginning of each level, the player is granted any weapons or items that he can find around him; these include items such as health potions or magic spells. As with many Teen-rated action games of its day, Saint Sword offers several layers of action beyond simply killing monsters and finding keys - namely solving puzzles and gathering power-ups from fallen enemies. Combat consists primarily of swordplay in one-on-one battles against various monsters; each has its own attack pattern that must be figured out in order to survive them. Some bosses will even challenge the player to solve puzzles before they are defeated; these might involve collecting certain colored stones or activating switches in specific locations.

Unlike most Genesis/Mega Drive games at the time, Saint Sword also featured a shop system where players can purchase upgrades for their characters. These range from offensive tools like bombs or upgraded blades to defensive items like shields or potions. Certain special abilities can also be purchased here; when activated during battle they offer powerful attacks or defensive benefits In addition to regular exploration of the world and equipment purchasing, Saint Sword also offers an RPG system with 3 stats (Strength, Magic Power and Health) that increase with every point scored while fighting enemies and bosses.

By completing levels and gathering all eight pieces of the broken holy sword, players will win Saint Sword's main quest - but not before fighting a giant dragon boss known only as “The Beast King”! All told, Saint Sword offers a solid action experience with enough puzzles and RPG elements thrown into make it stand out amongst similar titles released during this period.-The game itself brings its unique sense of charm to the mainstream trends established by classic titles like Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), giving players plenty of options when it comes to customizing their play style depending on their preference for either nonstop action over puzzle-solving adventure..
