Shatterhand is a side-scrolling action game developed and published by Natsume for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). It was released in North America in 1991. The game was known as "Operation Wolf" in Japan and Europe.

The story of the game follows the protagonist, Jack, who is a special agent sent to infiltrate an evil organization called Dark Arms. His mission is to defeat their leader, Dr. Kain, and liberate the world from his control. The player must navigate through various levels filled with enemies and obstacles while using Jack’s unique abilities.

Jack has several weapons at his disposal to help him in his mission: a gun, a grappling hook, bombs, missiles, and an air dash maneuver. He also has access to four power-ups which give him additional capabilities such as invincibility or double damage. Additionally, he can use energy capsules that restore some of his health points when collected.

The game features several boss encounters throughout its levels which require specific strategies to defeat them successfully. These bosses are usually much more powerful than regular enemies and often require multiple hits before they can be defeated. After each level is completed, the player receives bonus points depending on how quickly they completed it and how many lives they had left at the end of it. At certain intervals during the game, Jack will also encounter mini-games which will earn him extra points if completed successfully.

Shatterhand is considered one of Natsume’s most successful titles for the NES due to its challenging gameplay and vibrant graphics that make full use of the console’s capabilities at the time of its release. It received generally positive reviews from various gaming publications for its innovative level design and overall atmosphere of suspenseful action-packed adventure. Shatterhand continues to remain a popular title among retro gamers today who appreciate its classic NES charm and challenge that still stands up against modern titles even after all these years later since its initial release in 1991
