Shadowgate is a classic adventure game originally released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1987. It was developed by ICOM Simulations, who also developed Deja Vu and Uninvited. The game has been ported to various platforms such as the Apple Macintosh, Commodore 64, Amiga, ZX Spectrum, and iOS devices.

The story of Shadowgate takes place in the kingdom of Kal Torlin. The wizard Lakmir has prophesied that only one person can save the kingdom from destruction: a hero known as "The Seed of Prophecy". Players take on the role of this hero and their mission is to enter Castle Shadowgate and defeat the evil Warlock Lord.

Players explore Castle Shadowgate while solving puzzles and gathering items to help them progress through the game. As they explore they will come across various creatures such as ghosts, goblins, trolls, dragons and other monsters. These enemies can be defeated by using various weapons or magical spells that are found throughout the castle. Along with these enemies players must also face traps which can range from pits filled with spikes to walls lined with blades.

In order to complete the game players must navigate their way through twenty-eight chambers within Castle Shadowgate. Throughout each chamber there are six different items which must be collected in order for progress to be made. Some of these items include keys which unlock doors leading to further chambers; scrolls which provide clues; potions that can restore health; magic wands which cast spells; torches that light up dark areas; and special artifacts which provide access to secret passages or hidden locations within Castle Shadowgate.

Shadowgate is an incredibly immersive experience due to its detailed graphics and soundtrack featuring eerie music composed by Hiroyuki Masuno. The game also features several alternate endings depending on how well players complete their tasks throughout Castle Shadowgate. This adds replay value as players can go back and attempt different strategies or paths in order to reach a better ending or even unlock special secrets within the castle itself!
