Kid Icarus, originally released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1986, is a beloved classic.

It was developed by Nintendo R&D1 and directed by Satoru Okada, with music composed by Hirokazu Tanaka.

The game features a Greek mythology-inspired setting and stars protagonist Pit, an angel who must fight his way through a series of levels to save the goddess Palutena from the evil King Hippo and Medusa.

The game's main feature is its side-scrolling platforming action.

Pit can jump, shoot arrows at enemies, collect items to restore health or increase attack power, and use various weapons such as swords and shields to defeat enemies.

He can also use special powers granted by Palutena to access secret areas or gain an edge in combat.

The game has four distinct worlds: Skyworld, Underworld, Overworld and the Palace in the Sky.

Each world consists of three levels plus a boss stage at the end.

In each level, Pit must fight his way through hordes of enemies while collecting treasures along the way.

Upon completing all three levels of a world, Pit is rewarded with one of three sacred treasures which he needs to open the gate leading to Medusa's palace in the sky.

Kid Icarus has been praised for its colorful visuals and imaginative level design which emphasizes exploration over trial-and-error gameplay found in similar titles from that era.

Its soundtrack is also highly regarded; featuring catchy melodies that help set the tone for each stage and memorable boss battle themes that remain iconic today.

The game has become a cult classic among fans due its challenging difficulty and unique blend of platforming and action elements.

In recent years it has seen several re-releases on modern consoles such as Game Boy Advance (GBA), Wii Virtual Console (VC) and Nintendo 3DS eShop (eShop).

Furthermore, Kid Icarus was also featured in Super Smash Bros Brawl on Wii as one of its playable characters alongside other iconic Nintendo characters like Mario or Link from The Legend Of Zelda series.

Although Kid Icarus may not be as well known as some other NES classics like Super Mario Bros., it remains one of the most fondly remembered games from that era thanks to its unique mix of platforming action and mythological setting which have endured since its original release over 30 years ago
