HiGeMaru is a classic side-scrolling action game for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Developed by Nihon Bussan and published in Japan by Tokuma Shoten in 1988, HiGeMaru is one of the few NES titles to feature a female protagonist. The game follows the adventures of HiGeMaru, a young girl who must save her kingdom from an evil wizard.

The game has two different modes: Normal Mode and Versus Mode. In Normal Mode, players control HiGeMaru as she travels through five stages filled with enemies, obstacles, and power-ups. In each stage, the player must reach the end while avoiding or defeating enemies and collecting items such as coins, bombs, keys, and hearts. At the end of each stage is a boss battle against one of the wizard’s henchmen. Defeating these bosses will give HiGeMaru access to new areas in subsequent stages.

In Versus Mode, two players can compete against each other in either a race or battle mode. In Race Mode, both players race to reach the end of the course first; whoever crosses the finish line first wins. In Battle Mode, each player has three lives and must defeat their opponent by depleting their life meter before they run out of lives. After completing both modes successfully, players are rewarded with extra lives and points that can be used to purchase items at shops located throughout each stage.

The graphics in HiGeMaru are bright and colorful with detailed backgrounds that capture the fantasy world setting perfectly. The soundtrack is upbeat and catchy with several memorable tunes that add to the overall charm of this classic NES title. Overall, HiGeMaru is an enjoyable action-packed adventure that still holds up after all these years. Fans of classic platformers should definitely give this game a try!
