Mappy is a side-scrolling platform game developed and published by Namco in 1983. It was released for the Sega Game Gear in 1992. The game follows a police mouse named Mappy, who must rescue his girlfriend, Mapico, from the Meowkies, a gang of cats.

The game is set on several different levels, each with its own unique design and enemies. The player controls Mappy as he runs and jumps around the level to collect items such as keys and coins while avoiding or defeating the Meowkies. The goal of each level is to collect all the items before time runs out. As Mappy collects items, he earns points that can be used to earn extra lives or bonus stages. Additionally, special bonuses are awarded for completing levels quickly or collecting all the items without being caught by the Meowkies.

Mappy has two main types of enemies: the Meowkies and Goro (a gorilla). The Meowkies move around randomly and will try to catch Mappy if they get close enough. If they do catch him, they will throw him off the screen, resulting in a loss of one life. Goro moves around in patterns and can be defeated by jumping on his head three times or using an umbrella power-up which temporarily blocks him from moving.

The gameplay is relatively simple but also quite challenging due to its fast pace and tight controls. Players must carefully navigate around obstacles while avoiding enemies at all costs as well as managing their time wisely since there is a strict time limit on each level. There are also various power-ups scattered throughout each level which can help make things easier such as umbrellas which block enemy attacks or magnets which attract coins towards Mappy automatically.

Overall, Mappy is an enjoyable classic platformer that still holds up today thanks to its fun gameplay mechanics and challenging levels. It’s easy to pick up but difficult to master making it highly replayable for both casual and hardcore gamers alike.
