Columns is a puzzle video game released for the Sega Game Gear in 1990. The game was developed by Jay Geertsen and published by Sega. It is based on the original arcade version of Columns, which debuted in 1989.

The basic objective of Columns is to clear lines of colored gems by matching three or more gems of the same color. The player controls a column made up of three randomly chosen gems, which can be rotated and dropped into place on the board. When three or more gems of the same color are matched, they will disappear from play, and any gems above them will fall down to fill in the empty space. The player must continue to match gems until they reach a predetermined score limit or until they fill up their playing field with too many gems and lose the game.

Columns features two different modes: Flash mode and Normal mode. In Flash mode, the player must match as many sets of three or more gems as possible within a certain time limit; this mode has no score limit and can be played indefinitely. In Normal mode, the player must reach a predetermined score before running out of moves; this mode also features power-ups that can help give an edge over your opponent.

The game also includes several options that allow players to customize their experience; these include difficulty settings, gem colors (which range from traditional reds, blues, greens and yellows to exotic purples and pinks), sound effects (which range from classical music to 8-bit chip tunes) and background graphics (which range from abstract patterns to detailed images). Players can even adjust how quickly their columns drop into place by using a slider bar at the bottom right corner of the screen.

Overall, Columns is an enjoyable and challenging puzzle game that provides hours of fun for all ages. With its classic gameplay mechanics combined with new customization options, Columns offers something for everyone!
