Live A Live is a role-playing video game developed and published by Square for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). The game was released in Japan on August 5, 1994, and later in North America on October 1st of that same year. It was never released in Europe.
The game features seven unique scenarios, each with its own protagonist and setting. Each scenario has its own genre, ranging from horror to science fiction. The main objective of the game is to complete each scenario by reaching the end of the story while gaining experience points (EXP) and acquiring items along the way. Depending on how the player progresses through each scenario, they will have different endings available to them.
At the beginning of each scenario, players are given a choice between three difficulty levels: Easy, Normal or Hard. This determines how much EXP they gain when defeating enemies and how difficult it is to progress through the story. Players can also choose between two control schemes: Classic or Advanced. Classic mode uses traditional SNES controls while Advanced mode adds new commands such as dashing and jumping for more precise movement control. Additionally, players can customize their character’s stats by allocating points to their HP, Attack Power and Defense Power at the start of each scenario.
The main characters in Live A Live are all unique individuals from different backgrounds and eras who come together in an effort to save mankind from a great evil force known as “Ouma”. These characters include a samurai warrior from feudal Japan, an American secret agent in modern day Los Angeles, a robot from a distant future and more. During each scenario players must make choices which will influence their character’s actions and determine how the story progresses towards its conclusion.
Live A Live also features a battle system which requires players to use strategic thinking in order to defeat enemies efficiently while conserving resources such as health points (HP) or magic points (MP). During battles players can use various weapons such as swords or guns as well as special abilities depending on which character they are playing as at that time. Additionally there are mini-games scattered throughout each scenario which require quick reflexes or puzzle solving skills in order to succeed.
Overall Live A Live is an engaging role-playing game with multiple scenarios offering hours of replay value due to its variety of genres, characters and endings available depending on how you play through it. Its interesting storyline coupled with strategic combat mechanics makes it one of the best RPGs ever made for SNES console systems
