Axelay is a classic Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) shoot 'em up released in Japan in 1992 and North America in 1993. The game was developed by Konami and was the first of its kind to feature Mode 7 graphics and parallax scrolling. Axelay follows the story of a futuristic space fighter, the Axelay, as it battles against an alien race known as the Armada. Players must pilot the Axelay through seven stages of intense action-packed combat, while dodging enemy fire and navigating treacherous environments.

The game features three different modes of play: Normal mode, Novice mode, and Challenge mode. Normal mode is designed for experienced players who are looking for an intense challenge; Novice mode is designed for beginners who want to get used to the game mechanics; and Challenge mode offers more difficult levels that require precise timing and skillful maneuvering. In all modes, players must use their reflexes and quick thinking to avoid enemy fire while strategically maneuvering around obstacles such as walls, turrets, missiles, and laser beams.

Players can choose from two weapons systems on board the Axelay: Laser Cannons or Wave Motion Guns. Laser Cannons are powerful but slow-firing projectile weapons that can be used to take out large groups of enemies at once; Wave Motion Guns are fast-firing beam weapons that can be charged up for more power but require precise aiming. In addition to these two weapons systems, players also have access to a variety of special attacks ranging from homing missiles to energy bombs that can be used when needed.

Axelay has become one of the most beloved titles on the SNES due to its unique blend of intense action-shooter gameplay combined with stunning Mode 7 graphics and parallax scrolling effects. The soundtrack is also highly praised for its techno style music which perfectly complements the high octane action found within the game's levels. The combination of these elements makes Axelay one of the most memorable games ever released on the SNES platform.
