Hudson’s Adventure Island is an action-adventure platformer video game developed by Hudson Soft and released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1986. The game is based on the popular manga series, “Adventure Island”, and follows the adventures of protagonist Master Higgins as he attempts to rescue his beloved Princess Leilani from the clutches of an evil witch doctor.

In Hudson’s Adventure Island, players take control of Master Higgins as he traverses a variety of levels filled with obstacles and enemies. The goal of each level is to reach the end while collecting fruit along the way to restore health points. Players must also navigate their way past various enemies such as birds, snakes, turtles, and other creatures that will try to impede progress. Along the way, players can collect various items such as eggs which can be used to purchase upgrades or special abilities at shops located throughout the game. Additionally, various power-ups are available that allow Higgins to temporarily transform into a skateboarder or surfer in order to traverse certain areas more quickly.

The game features eight levels divided into four worlds: Jungle Island, Ocean Island, Cave Island, and Horror Land. Each world has its own unique set of levels and enemies that must be navigated in order to progress further in the game. At the end of each world lies a boss battle against one of four evil bosses who must be defeated before progressing onto the next world. In addition to these worlds, there is also a secret ninth world containing even more difficult levels and bosses that can be accessed after completing all eight main worlds.

Hudson’s Adventure Island was well-received upon release due to its vibrant graphics and challenging gameplay. The soundtrack was composed by renowned Japanese composer Shogo Sakai whose work would go on to influence many future games including Street Fighter II for SNES and Sonic CD for Sega CD. The game was later released for other platforms such as Game Boy Advance (GBA) in 2003 and Virtual Console for Wii U in 2014 allowing fans old and new alike to experience this classic platformer anew.

Overall, Hudson’s Adventure Island is an excellent example of classic 8-bit platforming goodness that stands up even today thanks to its timeless charm and engaging gameplay mechanics. Whether you’re looking for a nostalgic trip down memory lane or just an enjoyable romp through some old school platforming action then this game should definitely be on your list!
