Futebol is a classic soccer video game developed by Tecmo and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1988. The game was released in North America and Europe, as well as Japan, where it was originally known as TECMO Cup Soccer Game. Futebol is a top-down soccer simulation game that allows players to choose between four different teams: Brazil, Argentina, Italy, or Germany. Players can select from several different match lengths, including five-minute halves or full-length games of up to 90 minutes.

The gameplay of Futebol is similar to many other sports titles for the NES platform. The player controls an on-screen cursor with the D-pad and uses the A button to select options and the B button to pass or shoot depending on which team has possession of the ball. Additionally, players can use the Select button to switch between players on their team while they are controlling them. By pressing Start, players can pause the game at any time and access a menu with various options such as substitutions or changing formations.

Futebol also features a variety of different game modes including single matches against computer opponents or two-player mode against another human opponent using either one controller or two controllers connected simultaneously. Players have access to six different formations that they can switch between during gameplay: 4–4–2, 4–3–3, 3–4–3, 2–4–4, 5–2–2–1 and 6-0-4. Furthermore, each team has its own unique set of eleven players with varying skill levels in speed and accuracy when shooting at goal.

The graphics in Futebol are quite basic compared to more recent soccer games but still manage to capture some of the atmosphere of a real soccer match with detailed sprites for both teams’ players as well as realistic animations when shots are taken at goal or passes are made around the pitch. The sound effects are also quite simple yet effective and include crowd cheering when goals are scored as well as referee whistles when fouls occur during play.

Overall, Futebol is an enjoyable classic sports title that still holds up today despite its age. It captures all of the key elements of a classic soccer match while featuring enough depth and replay value to keep players coming back for more. While not as visually impressive compared to more modern titles like FIFA Football or Pro Evolution Soccer series games – it remains an entertaining experience that will bring back nostalgic memories for those who played it when it first came out over 30 years ago!
