Flappy is an arcade-style video game released by Nintendo for the NES in 1986. It was developed by Japanese game designer Shigeru Miyamoto and was one of the earliest examples of a side-scrolling platformer. The player controls Flappy, a small bird, who must navigate through a series of obstacles while avoiding enemies and collecting items.

The objective of Flappy is to reach the end of each level without losing all three lives. The player can control Flappy’s movements with either the D-pad or the A and B buttons on the controller. The levels are filled with platforms and enemies such as bats, birds, snakes, and frogs that move in various patterns. Additionally, there are power-ups such as invincibility stars and score multipliers that can be collected throughout each level.

The game consists of four stages divided into three levels each: Grassland, Underworld, Skyworld and Space World. In addition to traditional platforming elements, certain levels feature unique mechanics such as switches that open doors or cause platforms to appear or disappear temporarily. As the game progresses, the difficulty increases with more complex enemy patterns and faster scrolling speeds.

Flappy also features several mini-games between levels which can reward players with extra lives or points if they are successful. These mini-games involve simple tasks like shooting targets or dodging obstacles while flying around on a giant bee or bird creature called “Chirp”. These mini-games offer an additional challenge for players looking for more than just platforming action.

Flappy is an iconic Nintendo title from its era and has stood the test of time due to its simple yet challenging gameplay mechanics that remain entertaining today. Its classic 8-bit visuals have become synonymous with retro gaming culture, making it an essential part of any classic NES collection.
